Student Handbook 2025-2026

Artificial Intelligence Policy

This policy establishes guidelines for the appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools (e.g., Chat GPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, You.com) within the Goldfarb School of Nursing with a focus on academic integrity.  AI tools are increasingly sophisticated and accessible, capable of generating text, images, and other content that can student effort.  While these tools offer potential benefits for learning and productivity, their use must not replace student learning or effort.

To maintain academic integrity while encouraging the appropriate use of AI to benefit the teaching and learning environment faculty will determine the appropriate use and acceptability of AI tools in their individual courses and assignments.  Course syllabi and assignment instructions will clearly articulate when AI use is permitted, how it may be used, and the required documentation or citation.  The use of AI will never be permitted on a test, exam, quiz, or skill demonstration.

Faculty will investigate all incidences of suspected inappropriate AI use. A student found to have inappropriately used AI (e.g., used AI on an assignment, test, exam, quiz, or skill demonstration, where it was not expressly permitted) will receive a zero on that assignment and will be subject to the Student Integrity Policy written in the Student Handbook.  Absence of express permission to use AI tool should be interpreted as a prohibition of its use.
