NURS 6313 Focus on Student Mental Health
Provides an in-depth exploration of student mental health issues commonly encountered in the school setting. Emphasizing the role of the school nurse as a key member of the interdisciplinary team, students will examine mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders, trauma, and suicide prevention. With a focus on culturally competent and developmentally appropriate care, students will explore concepts such as evidence-based assessment, intervention, and de-escalation strategies, crisis response, mental health advocacy, and referral processes to address the growing mental health needs of school-aged children. Students will learn about the legal and ethical responsibilities that underlie quality mental health care.
