Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Concentration
Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing offers the Master of Science in Nursing Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner concentration for BSN-prepared registered nurses interested in becoming an advanced practice nurse focusing on caring for adult patients.
The program builds upon a foundation in theory, research, ethics and health policy to advance students’ understanding of clinical decision-making needed in advanced practice roles. Clinical experiences are conducted in clinics, physicians’ offices and other primary care settings in the St. Louis area.
Through the program, students will be educationally and clinically prepared to provide care for well adults, as well as diagnose, treat and manage adults with acute and chronic conditions.
A post-master’s certificate is available. An individualized curriculum plan will be developed based on a gap analysis of the applicant’s prior course work.
Graduates of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Concentration will be prepared to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) certification exams to become certified in the field.

Admission Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all undergraduate and graduate course work
Active RN license in good standing
An email with additional information regarding compliance requirements will be sent three months prior to start date.
Satisfactory completion of an undergraduate or graduate statistics course
Two letters of reference
CV or resume
Personal statement
NOTE: All course grades will be included in the cumulative GPA calculation. The Admissions Department may provide 10-year forgiveness for cumulative GPA calculation. The student must submit a petition for forgiveness of prior grades to the Admissions Department. This letter will be placed in the student’s file. The GPA will then be appropriately calculated.

Time Limitation
The maximum amount of time allowed for completion of a master's degree is five calendar years after the student first enrolls in a graduate course at Barnes-Jewish College. Certificate program students must complete all course work within three years of enrollment.

Barnes-Jewish College recommends that international applicants take the Internet-based TOEFL (IBT) or IELTS. The score requirement for the IBT is 85, with minimum scores of 21 for reading and 23 for writing. The score requirement for the computer-based test is 240, with a minimum score of 4.5 on the Test of Written English. The score requirement for the paper-based test is 575.
