NURS 4350U Emerging Infectious Disease (EID) & Role of Nurse

The course takes a systemic, global view of how human factors control the spread of epidemics. Using an epidemiologic and evolutionary biologic view, the student will study emerging infectious diseases and the care of populations before, during, and after epidemics. Students will examine how global climate change, changes in agriculture, food handling practices, water ecosystems, local antibiotic resistances, and healthcare procedures offer new opportunities for spread of pathogens. Topics include: epidemic surveillance, planning, preparation, infection control, infodemics, risk communication, epidemiologic transitions, virulence modification, and international goals for future emerging infectious diseases.
