Student Support Referral Process

Student Support Referral Process

The Student Support Referral Process is designed to initiate additional support to students experiencing academic and personal challenges in the classroom/clinical setting that may hinder academic performance or overall success.  The Student Support Referral process identifies behavioral patterns that may academically impact student success such as absences, low participation in a course, language or psychosocial or social-economic barriers, and a need for extended testing time. The goal of the Student Support Referral Process is to identify a comprehensive approach and meet student needs for success and not intended for crises and disciplinary issues. An action plan is put in place to help the student achieve academic success by working collaboratively between a network of faculty and professionals to support student success. Roles and functions include:

  • Student - The student is the primary stakeholder in this process to respond to attempts to support their success by responding to emails, booking appointments, and taking active steps to create and follow a student success plan (I.e. supplemental resources and tools.)
  • Instructor/Course Lead (faculty) – Students should meet with their course/clinical instructor to clarify content, assignments, classroom/clinical expectations, and to provide resources.
  • Program Director - Students should meet with the Program Director if they have a concern within a certain course, after having met with the faculty. The Program Director can provide support and guidance to the student.
  • Remediation Specialist (ATI, Med Math) - Students should meet with the Remediation Specialist if they have not successfully passed an exam or an ATI assessment in the course. The Remediation specialist will help student provide a structured study plan and help them navigate ATI and all the resources within ATI (eg: dynamic quizzes)
  • Student Academic Achievement Coordinator (faculty-SAAC) – Students should meet with their SAAC to review useful academic tools, explore NCLEX style questions, test taking strategies, studying strategies, and time management.
  • Academic and Student Support Advisor (professional staff) –Students should also meet with their Academic and Student Support Advisor to seek clarification on support services and policies within the Student Handbook, review the Course Catalog and course planning processes, career counseling, and other personal matters.
