Credit Transfer Policies
Undergraduate Prerequisite Courses
Students who have completed coursework at regionally accredited colleges or universities may have their coursework evaluated for transfer credit if all the following conditions are met:
-The coursework is completed at a regionally accredited institution.
-Official transcripts from all colleges attended are sent to the centralized application system.
-The final grade for each potential transfer course is a “C” letter grade (or above).
-The coursework meets the admission requirement standards for timeframe and previous course attempts.
Transfer credit grades are not included in the Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing cumulative grade point average (GPA).
Credit by Assessment Through American Council on Education (ACE)
Students will receive applicable credit for courses completed in service schools and in Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) based on recommendations made by the American Council on Education (ACE) in its Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services and the National Guide to Educational Credit for Training Programs.
An ACE official transcript is required to receive credit for any ACE approved coursework. Credits received are subject to the same policies as those of any other transfer credit.
Credit by Examination
Students with appropriate experience may be permitted to take competency exams for which comparable college credit has not been earned previously. Examination credit cannot be used for residency purposes, and there is no admission GPA calculation completed from examination credit. Satisfactory scores on competency examinations must be on file with the Admissions Department prior to the beginning of the student's first term. Information on Advanced Placement (AP) and CLEP (College Level Examination Program) is available at www.collegeboard.org; information on the Excelsior College Examination Program is available at www.excelsior.edu.
Students may earn credit through qualifying scores on the following examinations:
Advanced Placement (AP)
CLEP – A maximum of 9 credit hours could be awarded from CLEP examinations
International Baccalaureate (IB) credit completed at the Higher Level (HL) will be reviewed for appropriate credit upon receipt of an official IB transcript.
NCLEX - Students in the RN to BSN program will be awarded 39 credit hours of undergraduate coursework for successful completion of the NCLEX exam. Credit will be awarded during the student's first term in the RN to BSN program.
Transfer Credit from Foreign/International Institutions
Students wishing to receive transfer credit from a foreign/international college or university must submit an official evaluation from a U.S. evaluation company. The evaluation must include the grade and U.S. course equivalency to be considered for transfer credit.
